BAND-INFO: [Deut.] [Engl.]

The band Apophis rose in fall/winter 1990 out of a band called Raise Hell which was founded by Roger Kirchner and Jrg Bartelt (both guitar). In spring 1989 Erik Stegmaier (drums) and Kristian Hahn (vocals) joined the band. With the exception of permanently changing bass-players this line-up has remained the same up to now (the band is searching for a new bass-player to date).

In the beginning the band played a relative straight and simple kind of Thrash Metal. but this kind of style changed when a change in musicians took place. The band now began to play some technically more demanding, very varied kind of Death Metal.

With Christoph Bittner as a bass-player the band recorded their first Mini-CD "Gateway To The Underworld" at Tonstudio Gress in Gppingen in December 1992 which at first was intended to be a demotape and a tape for applications. This CD was distributed by SPV and Nuclear Blast and found some 2,000 purchasers.

Of course the band played gigs at that time, thus, among numerous own gigs, they had some, where they operated as support acts for Pungent Stench, Crematory, Fleshcrawl, Disgrace, Sacrosanct and so on.

From the beginning of 1995 to June 1996 it became calm about the band. First, the drummer went to the USA to study there, second, the band spent a long time searching for a record company that was to release their new material. But after the band had made some bad experiences with managers and bosses of record companies they decided to found their own record label "Contraption Records" and to record the next CD at their own expense.

They entered M&M Productions in Aalen in June 1996 and recorded their first full length CD "Down In The Valley" which was released in December 1996. This CD was distributed by Last Episode Records and IRS.

In September 1997 the band recorded their "Promo-CD 1997" at Nightmare Studios in Fautspach. This CD finally helped to find a record company - MORBID RECORDS.

Morbid Records sent APOPHIS to Hlohovec/Slovakia in June 1998, where they recorded their new album "Heliopolis" within 12 days. This CD, which demonstrates the firm and uncompromising musical development since "Down In The Valley", will be out on November 23rd, 1998 and will be distributed by Morbid Records and SPV.

The band now wants to concentrate on live-activites more than in the last months since they prefer to develop their musical strength in front of a raging crowd. Their 10-years' experience made them what they are now: an experienced band that makes a good team. They enjoy being on stage and presenting their songs and everybody is able to observe their honest joy while they play.
